The ugly new house that occupies most of the lot where a 1930s house and several trees once stood is shortly to be up for sale. It's been painted grey (the old one was yellow), grass has been laid on the strip of land left in front, and a full-grown dwarf Japanese maple has been put in for appearance's sake. They could probably have kept the holly tree that used to be there, if they'd tried. There's a sign speaking proudly of "improving the neighborhood."
