Since I periodically whine about the oogly modern houses replacing old houses ...

This is a rare example of the "storybook" or "fairytale" variant in a tract (1957). It's a corner house and also has little dormer windows on the side of the garage.




A little house on a side street with a lovely House Beautiful front window (1930).




Top-notch bungalow (they even have the 1920s house number plate). Just a bit crowded by later houses. The real estate pages say 2007, but that must be when it got renovated.




... and this is modern, but the stunning garden pulls attention away from the oddly sized arches. Even the plantings in the verge are thoughtful: California poppies under one shrub, yellow nasturtiums under another. (The real estate pages are all about the 1956 ranch house that this either replaced or engulfed.)

I recently watched a YT video about that street number font. It was surprisingly interesting as he tracked down the origins.

That was interesting (although I don't think he realises "antique bronze" refers to the finish on the metal), but it's about the standard house number font; that house in my 3rd pic uses a distinctive font very much of the early 20th century. Now I come to think of it—I have no design training—maybe those numbers are more art nouveau than art deco, though they emphasise the tops of the numbers rather than the bottoms.
