I understand (either from Pat or from Wikipedia, probably the former) that the helix pomatia snails we have here were imported to California from France so people could eat them. So I shouldn't be surprised they really like my little grapevine. I keep having to pull em off it (I toss them through the chainlink onto the neighbors' grass, which mostly survives at the fenceline). Babies, too; I haven't noticed baby snails anywhere else in our yard.

I remember discovering that years ago. I read something about an artichoke farmer who was trying to turn their snail problem into snail business by trying to sell artichoke fattened snails (and thus save the artichoke crop). It doesn't seem to have caught on.

I would be tempted to raise snails to eat if it wouldn't likely distress Christine.
