I heard late about the Napa/Sonoma fires; basically not until I got the notification of a bad air day because of the smoke. It was actively unhealthy on Thursday: the sunrise was maroon, there were few other dog walkers or exercisers at the park, and even I could smell it on the wind. Today is supposed to be less smoky but that's presumably because it's forecast to be windy. The pictures look awful, although I am puzzled at seeing it described as the state's worst natural disaster - I think that's still the 1906 earthquake.
This morning the dog was bounding around in the yard with a squeaky toy in her mouth, then worrying away at it in the grass stubble. I left the miserable thing in the hallway before letting it back on my bed. Every so often I pull another bit of grass or clover burr out of its matted pelt.
