We returned from Costco and had to pull into the driveway very slowly—and honk—while Mama Violet removed herself from where she had apparently been asserting her rights as primary barn cat.

Meanwhile, we've gone back to opening windows and doors to cool the place in the evening below the a/c setting. Unfortunately having the front door open (with screen door in place) reminded the dog of the existence of raccoons. Bark, bark, bark.

Oh, I wish I could open the windows, here. At least at night. The cats love it when they're open, and I sleep better as well. Sadly, the humidity prohibits it.

We're going through a rather unpleasant heat wave, here in Central Florida. We're looking at heat indices of 110°F / 43°C today. (And I firmly maintain that the apparent temperature (heat index) is what the temperature is.

Meanwhile, the Cattenz are all fat and sassy, even if they would much rather that the windows are open right meow. Evie's demanding treatz, as usual in the morning, and Penny's supervising the OUT, in case there's something interesting, such as a bird or butterfly, or...maybe even an anole! I'm not sure where Jack is...perhaps under the clothes rack, where she likes to sprawl. It makes her feel secure. Being three quarters feral, they like to vanish, whenever they're feeling insecure. Not to mention for occasional practice.

Hoping all's well on the Left coast. I'll be glad to be hurting less, once the remnants of that dammed tropical storm finish flushing themselves out of the vicinity. For some reason, my arthritis is the predictive sort -- I hurt when the storms are two days out, in the Gulf or the Atlantic. Sadly, that means that even when they miss us, here at Catten Corner, I still hurt like blazes. When they hit, on the day they hit, I usually don't hurt too much at all. (Unless it's a hurricane, and going straight overhead. That's another matter entirely.)
