... and the heatwave fizzled. Apparently the Marine Layer (AKA SF fog) said "nope". Today was shortsleeves weather again here, but tomorrow may not be.
When I took the dog out for attempted walkies (she went 2 houses, crossed the street, then returned), she made a beeline for a patch of ivy against the driveway fence. I was wearing sunglasses so it took me a moment to realize Mama Violet was lying there. (She's mostly mottled brown.) Nobody's face got torn off, in fact I didn't even hear the hiss. And later in the evening I saw her emerge from a slightly different place. I guess she has the measure of the dog.

We had storms, the past couple of days. Not nearly enough, but we desperately needed the rain, as we're in extreme drought, and wells have started to run dry. Luckily, our community well hasn't.
Also, a water main broke. Macrobrat (DubhEldestFosterSister, who's now old enough to be a grandmother,) had no water, three blocks down from us. I had about 2/3 normal pressure. It's fixed, so no worries.
It's almost cool enough, today, to open windows for cats. Sadly, only almost. Unless we lose power or A/C for a while, probably not again until Autumn. They're not happy about this, and there have been incidents of Cattenz trying to dig through windowglass to get the dammed things open again!
Meanwhile, life continues at the pace of Florida. (Which is why it's still 1994 in most of Central Florida, and, in spots, 1954.)

Water main breaks suck, esp. in droughts. Glad they fixed it.
Would be nice to have a storm, but chances are just gales and maybe dry lightning. Fire threat already elevated.

I liked what I saw of Florida, when visiting it in 1972. Living here...is another matter, entirely.
Sadly, it's pretty much the less wonderful parts of 1994. (And 1954.)
Frankly, could I afford it, I'd file the paperwork to get my Canadian passport, and relocate up there. That said, life is what it is. Thus far, the Cattens (who'll be senior cats, lather this year,) and I are managing to keep on keeping on.
