The park isn't quite so busy now that it's colder, plus many people around here went away for the holidays so there were a few dogs missing. But this morning they finally started the much delayed project to rip out the pool, its bleachers, and its locker-room building and the horseshoe courts behind that and replace them with a larger pool, a kiddie wading pool, a bigger building, and acres of sundeck. A builders' trailer now occupies several on-street parking spaces and the green net fencing has been installed around the site. So we lose more park. The pool would have been used a lot more if the city had provided lifeguards more than occasionally; it gets hot here in the summer and many families with kids live across from the park, or just around the corner.
