Monty was there at breakfast time, lying on the porch like a guardian lion, and didn't move when I went past to get the newspaper. Unlike Prudence, who always finds that terrifying. I hadn't seen her for a couple of days, but when I stumbled up the driveway after almost sunstriking myself raking the grass front and back (oak pollen strings and oak leaves in back; wild privet leaves and dried-up oxalis in front), I startled her out from under a bush. She took up her old favourite position under the front of the car, with her tail sticking out. Someone has scared her, poor silly thing.
