It was sunny but breezy, so I spent the afternoon taking the 522 bus all the way to the end and looking around East San Jose.

This is the end: view of the foothills from Eastgate Transit Center.

From the mall, I walked away along Rigoletto Street. The neighborhood is made up of streets named after operas, characters in operas, and composers. But the houses are very close together. They seem to be selling for upwards of $600,000.

The houses on King Street are less close together and have larger front yards, but a large number are operating businesses out of the front room. Like this enterprising witch offering Tarot readings, love services, and both white and black magic.

But this is a really pretty front garden

and this is wonderful use of color; unfortunately as you can see to the right, the rest of the house is still drab yellow.

Then in contrast there's this, which started out as a 1959 tract house, was divided into three rentals and at some point was upgraded into this plutocratic fantasy. It sold for almost $1 million last year.
