Apparently this was the 50th anniversary of the first airing of Star Trek. Wow.

I don't remember the first episode (The Man Trap, which was actually the second episode of the series filmed,) but I do remember watching the show during prime time on NBC, when it first aired.

The original series was a good, groundbreaking show for its time. I'm saddened that folks today, most of whom don't remember the times and cultural environment it was written and filmed in, tend to disparage it so. Unlike all the media which came after it, the original series was never anticipated nor intended to turn into a "franchise." I still like TOS better than most of the franchise's later media, because it doesn't take itself anywhere nearly so seriously as the more current productions do. And because it certainly broke far more ground, took more risks, and generated far more controversy than anything the franchise has produced since.
