The San Jose library was convinced I had not returned a book (on the Miss America pageant) that was due back 2 weeks ago. So we went in today and I looked for it on the shelf. And on adjacent shelves. And in the browsing area near the entrance, where I thought I remembered originally seeing it. And then I confessed to the librarian that I was almost 100% sure I'd returned it but I just couldn't find it to prove it. She had me look one more time in the browsing area, and looked herself ... and found it on the second shelf she looked on. So that's that, my fine is expunged and I don't have to buy a book on the Miss America pageant.
