A set of neighbors who really, really don't want the housemate's dog peeing on their lawn have just scraped the grass off and resown it, which must be fairly costly. So we must be extra specially careful not to let him use that yard. Unfortunately they get a lot of leaves from street trees; I think that's why their lawn tends to get patchy. But they also have a cat and are across from the park, in prime dogwalking territory, so I can completely understand why they don't want any canine latrine smells.
