Neither we, the car, nor any of our trees have floated away yet. However, the day is not yet over. We walked the dog expeditiously but not only had to turn back at the first available corner when the street between us and the park proved to have a fast-running and deep river along its entire length, but had to cross back to our block in the middle of the crossroads to take advantage of the camber - me waving my umbrella madly in case any driver was so focused on aquaplaning they didn't see the housemate's bright, bright yellow raingear - and then the poor sodden dog had to be picked up to ford the stream in front of the house. Then after we got inside and toweled him off, and I threw everything I was wearing in the washer and had a hot bath, the rain elevated itself to monsoon levels. The neighbor's Toyota parked in front of the house was throwing waves onto the sidewalk from the force of the running water hitting the tire. When the rain abated a little, there was a heap of leaves a foot high against that tire.
