Walking home from the bus, I noticed that one tall liquidambar still stands tall, clothed in maroon - its smaller neighbors have lost almost all their leaves, and the more locally adapted trees have new foliage, but it is quietly continuing to flame.

The one at the end of my sidewalk was also a lovely maroon -- that's just the right color description.
