A bleeding sky early this morning. As my bus passed Mathilda Avenue, where there is a little park with some conifers, maples, and red chestnuts - nice enough, but as I understand it the city sold a huge park in the foothills to pay for the little bit of land next to the new city hall - I noticed half a dozen people and a dog earnestly staring at this rather ugly sculpture and recalled that it's only useful twice a year - apparently the rising sun shines through the cleft on the two solstices. At least somebody remembered.
