After the thrice-accursed dentist, I had to copy another interlibrary loan book that has to be returned, so I rode the bus west to Palo Alto and combined the chore with wandering around the town. Found a nice City Beautiful neighborhood, Jefferson Park, and their version of the Town and Country red-tiled open-air mall; extremely upscale, very weird after knowing the late lamented one in Sunnyvale. It was sad to see how many properties on El Camino in Mountain View are vacant - and unnerving to see how many building sites there are on El Camino in Palo Alto - but I was relieved to see that this is still there.

It's kind of nice to get to wander around another part of town/new town. Can you return your ILL items to any branch in your system?

Sunnyvale only has the one library. I don't know about the other local libraries, such as San Jose, the most obvious multi-branch one; I suspect not, because the ILL stuff comes in the mail to a particular library. (Link Plus. It sucketh moderately, but all those years in NYC I didn't have access to interlibrary loan at all, so it's better than nothing.)
