Animal shenanigans.

Last night I noticed a large spider-web up under the glass surface of one of the counters at work. It took me three tries with paper towels and a yardstick to get rid of it, and I wound up having to remove and replace merchandise that one of the lines was secured to.

This morning, limping home from the bus stop, I saw the fluffy grey cat on the porch where s/he (opinions differ and no one's risking their life looking) likes to hang out early in the morning, and walked over and picked him/her up for pettings. As usual the cat emitted huge squawks, but mainly when I didn't stroke in the right places enough. Then the door opened and the lady of the house came out in what looked like pyjamas and said she was trying to adopt the cat but was scared to pet it. Or that's what it sounded like through my deafness and the squawks in my ear. Luckily or unluckily, the cat made me look like a selfish cat-napper by not suddenly giving me a ritual laceration.

Two doors down, "Bear" stuck his nose under his gate as I appeared and started bark-sobbing heartrendingly. He must have heard me talking and got his people to let him out. I didn't have the heart to disappoint him so terribly, so I let myself into the yard, opened the inner gate and reached around it for the leash with sergeant's stripes on it that lives there on top of the plant pots, got it on him just in time - he had run to the gate, wagging his butt like crazy, then leaped back toward me and twisted in the air and thrown himself at the gate, and his whole head was through it as I grabbed him by the collar and got the leash on him - and I hobbled around the park with him. I am so bad.

That's so lovely, I didn't know you had these friendships with the local creatures. I can just imagine Bear's people being all "Where are you going with our dog" and you being all, "Hey, me and my buddy here are gonna go hang out for a while."
