On the way home this morning, I encountered two large, healthy chickens on the sidewalk. One with very attractive black and white speckles, the other a pale ginger, both with attractive red combs. They were alarmed to see me; fortunately the hairy grey cat was not about. I hope they find their way back into the correct backyard before the dogwalkers start coming by. Although free-range hens in the streets is an attractive idea, that's too busy a street.

Makes the eggs hard to find too. We found a free range chicken once, apparently it was picked on by it's mates and escaped. No one ever did claim it and we kept it in the house for about 3 months.
