The chickens now look imposingly full-sized. When it's hot they shelter under a clump of plants with big floppy leaves.

The squirrels are getting bold again. I frequently hear them clatter across the corrugated roof of the screen room, and in the past few days one has run across both the back and front lawns in sight of one or more of the dogs. But I fear the dogs are middle-aged and don't have good eyesight. Maybe if a squirrel penetrates into the kitchen ...

D.O.P.-T. (yesterday)

This morning on the way home from the bus I disturbed a Flicker about to get his dinner at the bottom of the trunk of a sweetgum tree. He flew on to another tree, but stayed there when I passed that one. I tried not to stare at his little red cap.
