The bluebells are starting to bloom at the side of the driveway. It was warm enough today to wear a polo shirt, and on a walk I passed several people weeding in their front gardens or the strips by the kerb. On my way out, I disturbed Mama Violet, who'd been eating ...

Another house seems to have been moved out of. A crew were switching out the bushes at the foot of the porch for low-water stuff.

It occurred to me that the out-of-state licence plates I keep seeing may not be new hires, but people returning from working remotely. I doubt they're all visitors, though at Thanksgiving and Yuletide this is where a lot of families assemble rather than going to somewhere snowy and icy.

Generally speaking, I do approve of xeriscaping for desert residences.

Yes, but it isn't; this isn't SoCal, the local climate is Mediterranean and the native vegetation is grassland and live oaks, not chaparral. California poppies—and grass and oak seedlings—run riot in the xeriscaped front yards every spring, because we do have a rainy season.
