The wind gradually died down; by the early afternoon it was good blowy drying weather, but putting out laundry and then leaving it there while I went to the dentist (still wearing my summer sandals) failed to get it to rain. We had one of those sunsets that start with a threatening yellow glow and then resolve to pink; by that time the clouds were still in the sky. Monty had been lying on the roof of the neighbours' shed; he came around into the back porch room and asked for food, and I saw him eating it avidly. It was all gone a couple of hours later; maybe Prudence emerged and finished it. She seems to follow his lead on whether it's safe to eat.
