Day 2 of workmen. The dog chose today to get diarrhoea. Much barking, many trips outside on leash. Wide open back door on a cold day. Banging and drilling. One of my rose bushes got trodden on during the installation of an air intake. Then after the men finally left, after dark—luckily I'd already depooped the yard and given the dog a little walkies—there was box Tetris in the living and dining rooms so that vents can be installed tomorrow, and I discovered the beater bar on my hand vac has died.

I saw Prudence sleeping on the roof of the neighbours' shed, but otherwise no kitty sightings.

The election news is unmentionably bad.

(And it was Guy Fawkes Day and I believe my father would have been 95.)

96 actually.

Lots of debate over this side of the pond about fireworks, mainly about how much they frighten animals. A petition is up to limit days when fireworks can be lit and to ban private homes letting off fireworks. I think this would be a shame, I have happy memories of family fireworks, and it's too draconian to ban them. I'm hoping that the new, silent fireworks will provide a useful compromise.
