Both Monty and Prudence were there in the grey chill at breakfast time. When I got up again and stumbled into the back porch room to make my daily check of the thermometer, light rain was speckling the concrete. And the old desk chair near the thermometer jiggled. Then I saw Prudence tucked under the papasan chair. Of course, the dog then wanted to be let out, and Prudence didn't have the sense to stay put. I think the dog caught a brief glimpse of something moving as she ran out into the yard; she didn't give chase, so hopefully Prudence will return.
Update: She did. When I took the coffee pots out to feed the compost monster, she decided to shoot into the back porch room out of the rain, then waited to be fed. Then when I emerged from the garage after getting ice cream from the freezer in there, she remembered the room wasn't safe, stopped eating, and went back out into the garden.
