Oh good. The flock always seems to dwindle over winter, but then again, we're not near their primary haunts, so I may sometimes be seeing just a scouting band.
I am not, of course, an ornithologist, but I have been told that's how the flocks in San Francisco survive -- by nesting together for warmth, circulating who's on the outside getting cold toes. It is, of course, not as good a solution as setting something on fire and basking in front of it, but hey... a bird does what a bird can.
