The California poppies have busted out all over. Here are more where I saw the first:




At the base of a rail fence:




and at the base of a wall:




in bits of soil on the sidewalk strip:




mixing it up with marigolds:






Some people have planted them as part of their gardens, or accommodated them when they moved in:








but they clearly like to jump across to the sidewalk strip on their own terms.
