Thanks to the pandemic and the sorta pause in the economy, a lot of companies have taken the opportunity to do things like tooling upgrades and so on.. net result, most of the motor industry is like five years ahead of their plans to go all-electric and phase out petrol engines. Ditto most of Europe's coal fired power plants are being shut down ahead of schedule. And what with massive improvements in solar panel efficiency and working out how to get PV panels to use infra-red and uV as well as visible, solar power is already the cheapest form of electricity production, effectively only needing to cover grid-maintenance costs. Oh, and they're going green on the production side, producing solar panels in a eco-friendly way.
The new news was dominated by a huge fire in SoMa, live-work spaces, social justice operations, commercial kitchens vital for restaurants (including for providing hundreds of free meals a day these days), and awesome graffiti, transformers falling on firefighters' heads ... but they saved the Sheriff's Dept. computers and moved out the ammo before it shot up the neighborhood.
Dozen's of 'em. At least... maybe not dozens of items of world news.
Local/personal news: Gideon is happy to wear a mask although it has to be a blue one, now that he has been watching the Maskman cartoon. Mariota didn't need a tooth pulled after all. Glenda has discovered that her chronic skin condition is urticaria and it has greatly improved as soon as treatment started. My sister has a paying gig house sitting this summer which means she's got an income for a bit. My music practice can resume. My spouse has been singing which is a sign that his depression has lifted somewhat.
Media news: Our PM was not able to get a big contract handed over to cronies of his and everybody involved is being embarrassed. The proposal to open the border of the Maritimes (well controlled pandemic) with Quebec (not well controlled pandemic)is meant only to apply to the two most northern regions of the Gaspésie and the first nations who live there. If you travel from the Gaspésie to Trois Riviére and points south you're not supposed to be admitted. Biologists have resurrected 101.5 million year old bacteria that was buried in sludge far below the bottom of the ocean. There is a new test for cancer which detects cancer four years before any other test for those types of cancer. Mama Bear was found and returned to her owner. A guy in Washington state managed to salvage 2.4 million pounds of crops that could not be sold due to the pandemic and get them delivered to different food banks. The mercs in Portland are only a few hundred strong, one localized bunch who obviously have no idea what they are doing so it might just hopefully maybe only add up to being a photo-op for the pre-election, not an actual invasion force from the TrumpGestapo.
