Not really. I used to keep an eye to the Pistons, Blazers, and Red Wings, but I don't really even do that anymore. Never really followed them, though. Now if the Lions ever managed to field a winning team, I might, just for the novelty. Haven't seen that since I was little.

But no. Sports really isn't my thing.

(Of course, I'm not a barbarian: I may not follow them, but I still support the Wolverines. And anyone playing against Ohio State, naturally....)

I live within earshot of The Den, headquarters of Millwall FC. They play in the Championship together with other English football (soccer) teams that haven't received the multimillions in investment in players needed to get a team into the Premier League (yawn!).

I don't enjoy watching football but I follow Millwall's progress each year and am pleased when they do well. They are an old team, founded 1885, supported mainly by working class Londoners with their origins in the East End. Their supporters have a justified reputation for being tough (slogan: No one likes us but we don't care).

Their stadium is tucked between railway lines in an unglamorous neighbourhood between a waste incineration plant and scrap metal merchants. Unfortunately it is now being eyed covetously by the local council who own the land as a rare, large site for building the shoeboxes that pass for flats in London. The club can't afford to rent or buy land for another stadium in London, so if they are evicted it will have to move out to Essex or Kent away from its origins.
