I inherited a desk from my father and it was a useful place to pile up books, since I tended to have book-heavy homework. But I sometimes worked at a table downstairs instead.
Many different residences, several different schools.
I started out doing homework on the kitchen table at DubhGrandparents' place and the first hose DubhDad took me away to live in (it was an old barn, converted to a two-story residence when the city annexed the land, and then later dubiously converted into a duplex which DubhDad bought.) At the third house, I had a hand-me-down desk that I could use. Later, at the same house, in high school, I had a battered old antique library table that I'd inherited and kept in my (then newly built) attic bedroom. Of course, in high school, I did little homework. I used that table to do college assignments, too, when I lived there. The table was sold, in a garage sale, after I moved to Oregon.
My parents bought me a proper wooden office desk when I reached 11. Unfortunately I have always been short and with the chair I had it was too high and very uncomfortable to use. Also, our house was cold.
I did my homework lying on the floor or sitting up in bed.
