The new calico is smart: she's taken to lying in the lap of the teddy bear on the chair on the porch, like Ms Whiskers did, and she looks back when I look at her, then jumps down to be ready to eat. She got her dinner that way this evening, but is now back, eying me meaningfully. I'm afraid I won't feed her again tonight because she'll just be spooked when we walk the dog shortly, and more importantly, it's another 10 days or so till I can buy more catfood so it has to last.
