The house is finally getting smogged for termites, and it'll be repainted soon after. We'll be leaving on Sunday night for somewhere in the Sierras, coming back the following Saturday, and that will be my vacation week for the year, and a much-needed break for the housemate.

I'm worried about Ms Bella; I've thought of leaving the boxes of Fancy Feast cans in the bushes with a supply of plastic plates and begging the next-door lady to nip over once a day and tip out food for her.

Meanwhile the bush-cutting crew arrived early this morning and are now getting down to chopping back everything around the house. For some reason they began by clearing the porch of my potted plants, which could and should have stayed until the day we left; they bundled them next to the compost, and hopefully haven't killed any. Then they raked next to the fence where the amaryllis bulbs are, knocking off one bud and possibly killing two bulbs, and for what reason I have no idea; that fence is not involved in any way in the termiting operation. As it is we'll lose at least one rose bush and who knows what else, but that was just wanton. And probably they will charge the housemate extra for the "neatening".
