Our usual longer walk loops around the basketball and tennis courts in the park, giving a good view of the playing fields and basketball diamonds beyond. Looking back over the summer as it officially draws to a close (of course the real thing will shade very gently into fall with T-shirt weather continuing for months yet), I realize I haven't seen much soccer being played there this year. Maybe we just haven't been out there at the right times, but the turf seems too healthy for that to be the whole story. On the other hand the main diamond has been busy almost every day and every evening, as often with cricket as with baseball or softball. Maybe the fear of a cricket ball to the skull has scared the footballers away.
