The new house replacing the old one (which was built in 1930) now looks like one of those lot-filling, under-windowed tenements in Japantown. And while I wasn't looking the holly tree met the same fate as the lemon tree; just when we and the birds would usually have been enjoying its berries. They've placed a portable toilet where it grew.
