One of the trees in our backyard is - according to the tree surgeon - a gigantic sucker of the plum tree on the other side of the fence. It's pretty, often has a nest in it, and turns interesting colors in fall, but it hasn't produced flowers or fruit. Last year, however, I saw a single blossom emerging from the bark of one of the main branches, and this year one half of it is studded with them - while the parent tree is of course smothered in them.
