The local oak trees (which are evergreen) are suddenly bristling with new leaves at the end of each branch, kind of like feather dusters. This includes the one that's been forced into hedge form against someone's wire mesh fence, and the two self-sown ones in our yard, as well as all the monster trees that rear over the neighborhood together with the ailanthuses and the tall palms. They must be making up for the dryness during most of the growing season.
