Most of our neighbors have fruit trees, of all varieties (and there is a tall avocado tree at curbside not far away). The newer ones all seem to be dwarves - I only just realized from reading that this is likely to be from topping the tree rather than special cultivars, which makes me quite sad. However, it does make it possible to see that one neighbor's apple tree has fruit beginning to blush. I think I will use another neighbor's old and neglected tree as my signifier for Hærfest though, since it works so hard to blossom and fruit each year.

Here you can tell if a neighborhood is older by the fruit trees. Younger ones don't because they are "messy" and lazy modrens don't trust food not in plastic.....
