It may have been a tiny bit less hot today - Los Altos peaked at 104 rather than 106. Still, we flouted save-the-air regulations by driving to the library so I could return an interlibrary loan book. The housemate also had one, plus a stack of ordinary loans. Managed it in the nick of time; they were trying to close at 6 in advance of the public holiday tomorrow, but people, especially families, kept trying to sneak in through the "out" door to get into the a/c. And to return books; it turned out the return machines were on the fritz, inside as well as out, so I had to return to the desk with the housemate's stack that I'd planned on returning outside. I can't help thinking the heat played a role, but maybe it's just her; the register crashed while processing her radishes, croissants, and liver yesterday.
