The refuse company did finally get around to supplying us with a new greenwaste bin (2 February entry), but instead of its appearing the day before collections so we could put out the old one, as announced on the flyer we all got in the mail, the new ones just turned up later on collection day. They seem to have missed some addresses, so the street wasn't quite full of greenwaste bins old and new, but it was still cluttered, especially since inevitably, some people were away or pay someone to tote their bins once a week, so their bins just sat there. And the new bins are smaller, as I'd expected; what I hadn't expected is that the lids don't fully close, so the wind proceeded to flip them open on the leftover ones. (We often get wind in the afternoon off the Bay, although we couldn't be described as near the shore.) So this coming week we all get to put out our trusty old greenwaste bins and see if the company can get it together to empty them and take them away, and whether they will go up driveways and hunt for any missing ones. And then when there's a windstorm on collection day or the day before, leaves and who knows what else will get blown out of the new bins all over the street.
