Prudence and Fortitude. Now that it's dusk and I've turned on the porch light and closed the front curtains, they're out there sharing the wet food.
Unfortunately I was an idiot earlier. I was in the middle of the evening watering and noticed Grey One and Monty facing off in the backyard: Monty was under the Adirondack chair at the back of the garage so I didn't see him at first, just Grey One with his back legs straddled and his tail inflated and swinging back and forth. The dog was snoozing at the top of the kitchen steps, oblivious. When the timer went off and I went out to move the sprinkler, the dog was inside and I didn't bother closing the kitchen door; Monty sprang out and Grey One fled, but the dog immediately came hurtling out into the yard and chased Monty under the tree and presumably over the back fence.
