The yard on the other side of the chainlink fence has now been clearcut (I wish I'd broken in and tried to rescue the roots of the briar rose and the buddleia), including the ailanthus and everything else in the side yard, the now dead white-flowered vine from their side of the fence (its roots were in the yard behind us, where nobody watered it), the branches of my potted geraniums that had grown through and bloomed on their side, and at least some of the old chicken-wire extension on top of that part of the fence (I recognize its wooden slats lying broken on the ground). Monty's shady hideaway is open on their side, so I doubt he'll use it any more, and I can see straight through across the yard to the driveway of the house next door to the vacant one, which I'm not sure the lady living there will appreciate. The only vegetation that didn't get removed, other than the "grass", was the dead morning glories from last year, twined up the fence behind our garage.
