I hadn't known about Heather Cox Richardson until I saw a comment on Followmehere. She's very good.

Light rain this morning, unpredicted and unnoticed by the weather service. Monty and Silver were waiting for me on the porch and to stay dry they sat at either side of the top of the steps, tails curled around their feet, when I returned with fresh water. Then I came out by the side door to retrieve the newspaper, which was lying at the end of the driveway beside the car and had started to get damp. I threw the cat toy that was still there onto the end of the porch; wasn't able to find the rat, which they obviously prefer.
