No hail yet that I've seen, but it's rained most of the day so far. It was raining lightly as we set out for the supermarket, and the rain became heavy while we were in there. Unfortunately the county has apparently followed San Francisco in sheeplike fashion and banned reusable bags. So I had to stand there while a well-meaning young man put his hands all over my groceries once packing them in paper bags, then did so all over again redistributing them into more bags, then a third time mixing the housemate's groceries in with mine and then redistributing the whole lot again. (Yes, he was wearing gloves, which just facilitate the spread of any contagion.) And of course the paper bags started to disintegrate as soon as we got out of the store with the cart into the pelting rain. They're also making people queue to enter, which is understandable and slightly reduced the Rubik's cube problem of getting around the store (which was still pretty bad, with masked fellow shoppers, stockers, and one homeless-looking guy all constantly coming too close), but they were doing it at the further door, making it impossible to get to the kerb cut without coming too close to the staffers at the exit, plus they were handing carts to us as we entered, which was both an automatic violation of distancing and ensured the cart was maximally contaminated. So I rebagged the groceries under the store eaves and left the paper bags folded on the ground, and we both washed and changed clothes after returning. At least I couldn't find a charge for the bags on my receipt.

I hope we can get a dry spell before nightfall when we can walk the poor dog; she and the housemate both dislike being rained on.
