On the way to Petco to buy canned dogfood before the weekly grocery run, I noticed the Olson cherry stand on El Camino, one of the few bits of Sunnyvale history, is now a Starbucks. I knew the family had given up and closed it, but that's ignominy.
Memorial Day here in the US; it was very quiet coming back from work. The pool at the park hasn't opened yet; maybe it will now. The underwater roomba has been silently gliding around the bottom gathering up fallen leaves, and a week or so ago a plastic owl appeared on the edge at the shallow end. I'm not sure whether that will have any effect on the mallards who occasionally swim in there. I kind of hope it doesn't; if humans are not going to use the pool, why not let the ducks use it.
I took the bus into Mountain View before giving the meadow in front of the house a trim (I did the back yard yesterday), and was surprised to see a heap of twisted metal where a computer store used to be, just behind my dentist. Apparently it burned down a month ago. No local paper ...
