That may have been the last rain, I figure.
Denny's has closed, to be redeveloped into another huge apartment block, with townhouses at the back and with a new Denny's promised on the ground floor. It was open all night and had a fireplace for winter; people will miss it. Also they will miss cutting through its parking lot. This morning there were garbage bags and a flattened box waiting for collection, and two boxes containing plastic jugs of cooking oil—liquid margarine and shortening—that had been run over, presumably by someone clipping them as they made the turn around the building. Gulls were dipping their beaks in the spreading puddles.
