The wind was high when I left for work last night - the streets were almost deserted and a yellow balloon was scooting along in the middle of the crossroads. It got higher all night - I didn't turn on the door alarm because the door was constantly banging. Also, the manager hired another trainee and he worked with me all night, so there was a second person to watch. Customer-wise, it was a slow night anyway. When I left the store this morning, the sky was full of shredded dark clouds and gaping red wounds, and the palm trees were swaying violently. The bus was also almost empty. Walking back from the bus stop, I saw fragments of trees littering the sidewalk in places. A segment of the fence outside the building that is being converted to a daycare center was lying on the sidewalk. The gate had blown open at the house that keeps chickens and all three were foraging on the next-door lawn. Our own next-door neighbor's wicker chairs and cushions had blown off the porch and been stopped by the picket fence. So I blessed my various ploughs.
