The neighbors in the accursed house on the corner have tomatoes in a large square planter - like I do - and are also growing some sort of vine (squash?) in a cardboard box. I'm not sure whether this is because their landlord - who, after all, destroyed a lovely garden with extreme prejudice - has forbidden them to sully the prissy patio behind the house with vegetable cultivation, or whether it's to discourage thievery, or what.
The neighbors with the chickens now have their lawn subdivided with an additional chickenwire fence, two more pie plates containing meal and water, and a cardboard box. The denizens of the new subdivision are two smaller black and white chickens. Apparently they are now operating a chicken sanctuary - the 2 new girls, who are still a bit shy, were found wandering up the street. Maybe they jumped off the Caltrain. The 6 permanent residents have halved strawberries for a treat this morning. I kind of hope they keep the other 2 so they can have strawberries too.
