The temperature's rising again, although there was a stiff breeze this morning. The mess that was the old lady's house has been sitting with a "for rent" sign on it. They wound up destroying the entire garden, so a week or so ago they sent an old man and a boy by with a barrow to dump new topsoil on the front part, and last week there was ceaseless whining of a stonecutting saw while they laid paving over what's left in back, and over most of the space between the sidewalk and the street, too. Two little saplings have been planted - I think a jacaranda (poking out of a hole in the yard in the back) and a copper-leaved cherry (in front, where there will presumably be grass - they've laid irrigation pipe). Nobody's watering them.
