Wigláf ("leavings of battle"), was a Swede of the clan of Wægmundings (the same clan as Béowulf's father, so distantly related to him) who came to Geatland to serve Béowulf. He was the only one of those accompanying Béowulf who was not paralyzed by fear of the dragon; he helped him to kill it and then tended him and gave him water as he died. He also berated the others for being ungrateful traitors. Béowulf told him to look after his people well, which amounted to saying he should be the next king, and also told him he was now the last of the Wægmundings.
