I walked to the library and back. I noticed that a walled-off front yard has its center entirely devoted to growing vegetables this year, including an elaborate trellis over the tomatoes (I suspect gourd plants are going to start climbing it shortly) and two quinquipods of beanpoles. The people in the house that used to have a cactus garden have planted brightly flowering plants in the sea of cedar chips around and under their little ornamental maple tree; I wonder whether they would have liked the cactus garden.
