I was lying beside the fat human, with my head comfortably on the pillow, when she finally woke up.
After devouring my breakfast, I went outside and patrolled the yard, then barked a few times to alert those neighbor dogs.
I returned to the bed to sleep on the soft turned-back sheets until the thin human got up and went into her daytime room, so I lay down in the doorway to watch the house while rubbing my belly on the carpet.
Having established the house was safe and the humans unlikely to sneak out, I spent most of the day snoozing on the fat human's bed and various floors. In the early afternoon we had a nice walk around the park, except that there was nothing under the benches to be eaten, and at one point I could have sworn I saw my beloved in the distance but then we crossed the street. I got to go in the sandpit, where the human usually yanks me out of! Silly humans changing their minds all the time.
As it got darker in the house, I moved to the thin human's room and politely requested my dinner. After several hours, the fat human finally fed me and then vanished outside. I drank a lot of water and kept checking where she was. When she returned, I went and lay down facing the front door in case those scary black birds got in, to be ready to eat them first.
Then it was time for the humans to finally be in one room, so I nudged them in turn and then just curled up in the room where they do the jigsaw anyway. They finally came in so I had a good sleep and managed to deposit some of my loose hair on the carpet, feels better.
Now it's almost time for me to go out in the yard and run around and play the catch me game to give the fat human some exercise. Maybe there'll even be a possum in the yard, or at least a rat. Then I will let the fat human go to bed and decide which human to flop down next to.
