The dog is elderly now. He gets an array of pills at every meal. He can't make it onto the housemate's bed any more, and rarely jumps on mine; but he still loves to jump up on me, and to tear into the gate noisily and violently when he's confined in the dining room while I assemble my dinner bag for work. (If not confined, he would bite the heck out of it and try to chew through the straps of my work bag.) He burrows under my desk much more often than he used to, and keeps unplugging the mouse and walking off wearing it around his neck. He doesn't try to hump the housemate nearly as often; instead he rolls on both of our feet and rubs himself all over our legs, so he's even more of a tripping hazard. He always did have difficulty handling heat, but now he's only up to a short walk no matter the weather; unfortunately he can't understand this and sometimes heads off determinedly and has to be forcibly turned around before he goes so far he'd have to be carried back. Most days he ambles along and then becomes rooted to the spot, nose embedded in some plant. It's becoming a bad habit that we press the button to cross the street, the light changes, I set off and reach the middle of the crossing, there is traffic waiting - but the dog won't be budged and I have to return. Then he will decide to amble across mid-block. We're becoming notorious with local drivers, I'm afraid.

The new indoor-outdoor thermometer thingie shows pressure and a weather forecast. Only the pressure was varying only within a very narrow band, the row of bars below it that is the pressure history was flat, and the weather forecast didn't have a rising or a falling arrow and was unvaryingly sun peeking out of clouds. I reckoned it couldn't read the pressure because the outdoor sensor is in fact dangling from a short string over a nail in one of the garage eaves. Then suddenly the pressure history started showing bars of different heights, a downward temp. arrow appeared - and the forecast changed to rain. That was kind of ludicrous. Two days later and it's gone back to sun peeking out of clouds. If it starts forecasting snow, I think I'll have to take a photo.
